The Boys season 4 unveils a continuation of its hallmark mix of violence and political undertones, as shown in its latest trailer. The clip paints a picture of a world on the brink of chaos, where personal struggles intersect with broader societal conflicts. Following on the heels of the movie Civil War, which was about a divided America, The Boys Season 4 is diving into election-year drama, with political tensions boiling over into violent clashes. Alongside the usual dose of blood and action typical of Prime Video’s show, we’re also getting a taste of the chaos and conflict sparked by an impending election in The Boys Season 4. Which begs the question, is The Boys Season 4 priming Americans for fascism?
Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher is depicted in a rare moment of vulnerability, grappling with remorse for past misdeeds and a newfound urgency to make amends before his perceived demise. Antony Starr’s Homelander, meanwhile, delivers a chilling address to The Seven, signaling a transition from celebrity status to that of wrathful, god-like figures. This evolution reflects the show’s ongoing exploration of power dynamics and the corrupting influence of authority.
The trailer introduces viewers to new characters from The Boys spin-off show Gen V, hinting at intersecting story lines and expanded world-building. Notably, Jeffrey Dean Morgan makes a return appearance, enlisting Butcher’s help in confronting super-powered individuals. Meanwhile, Butcher stumbles upon a virus capable of neutralizing them, adding a new layer of intrigue to the drama.

Against the backdrop of an election year, political tension escalates, fuelling violent clashes and ideological divides. The trailer hints at themes of authoritarianism versus resistance, with Homelander clearly an attempt at the left to portray a Trump-esque figure, regardless of the constant attacks on Americans’ free speech and gun rights and even public bathrooms for women only by the current Biden administration. Of course, Starlight emerges as a symbol of opposition because of girl power and all that.
The dynamics between established characters like Butcher and Homelander, as well as the newer generation represented by Gen V’s Cate Dunlap and Sam Riordan, promise to propel the narrative forward. Internal power struggles and shifting alliances deepen the storyline, hinting at complex character arcs and moral dilemmas.
Moreover, the trailer introduces key players such as Victoria Neuman, a Supe with her own agenda, and Black Noir, whose mysterious reappearance adds another layer of intrigue. The involvement of Vought, the corporate entity behind The Seven, further complicates matters, as its grip on power begins to falter.
The trailer also teases the introduction of Firecracker and Sister Sage, new additions to Vought’s roster with undisclosed powers. Their roles in the unfolding conflict remain ambiguous, but it would be a safe bet to say that Sister Sage will be the Hollywood stereotype of the angry black woman.

The inclusion of a Supe-killing virus will raise ethical questions and moral quandaries for characters like Butcher. Desperate decisions could have far-reaching consequences, adding tension in an already volatile environment.
Overall, The Boys season 4 trailer sets the stage for its trademark blend of action, intrigue, and social commentary. As far as the question of whether Homelander represents the Republican or Democratic is concerned, ultimately it doesn’t matter, because neither of the two faction’s elected elites acts in the interest of Americans.

The only difference is Alex Garland didn’t pick a side.

Why would they be priming Americans for Fascism? None of the people in American government, nor any candidate running for election are fascists.
They should be priming Americans for revolution no matter what your political ideology is, because the government is clearing only serving their own best interests, and the not the interests of Americans.

I read The Boys a number of years ago via the public library. Very overrated series. I liked Ennis’s Punisher MAX much better. I was told the tv show is actually better than the comic but I have no interest in watching it. I also don’t like the fact that they are using The Boys to comment on current events in the political world. Whatever happened to tv and movies that were free of politics and woke garbage??

Season 1 was enjoyable as while they clearly had their leftists bias, it was a bit South Parkish in still taking swipes at some of their own stupid ideology. Season 2 they started getting away from that and I honestly can’t remember shit from it it was so bad other than the muh girl power beats Nazis ending. Season 3 they went all in on “anything not left is evil” to ridiculous levels and frankly I’m just done.
