With the discovery of Sweet Baby Inc involvement in many games. Gamers started to question why progressive companies like SBI exist in the first place. Games studios have money and can hire writers’ teams, so it is puzzling as to why consultants are a thing. The truth is, after GamerGate, people like Anita Sarkeesian failed, which eventually led to what happened with The Last Of Us: Part 2.
For the progressives, 2014 and the whole scandal was a nuclear bomb, and they did not want that to ever happen again. To quote the YouTuber Razorfist in his recent video, “Overt politicization of the video game industry didn’t so much disappear, it went undercover.” This means that the progressives retreated, stopped being on the nose, and just started implementing their agenda.

And what better example of this influence than The Last of Us: Part 2. A game was leaked by a whistleblower, revealing the divisive plot that fans of the first installment rightfully got angry about, adding to the anger, before the leaks, Naughty Dog made ads of the game showing that Joel was going to be an active character, but when the main story was revealed, and many were shocked.
Joel, the main character of the first game, is killed by the new character Abby because Joel killed the surgeon who was operating on Ellie; that surgeon was Abby’s father, even tho in the first game, the surgeon is black, which only makes things weird at the time. When the game launched and the leaks were confirmed, The Last of Us 2 became an example of what not to do.
But this was not out of nowhere. Since the development of the first game, Neil Druckmann, the creator and writer of the games, was influenced by the videos and presentations of Anita Sarkeesian. This shaped his thinking, and it shot up to one hundred in the second game, making Abby a beefed-up woman for the vain and vague reason of being “realistic.”
He made all the female characters, besides Abby and Lev (the only trans character), trans-friendly so that trans women are not offended. He went further and made the main goons you fight as evil Christians and enslavers, a not-so-subtle jab. Truth is, Druckmann was going to hit a point of exaggerating his beliefs in his art.
To be fair to him, The Last of Us, and its DLC, Left Behind, which was a sign of where he was going, are well written. Even Uncharted 4, which has a very annoying character, Nadine, still has an engaging and interesting story, but the overpraises go over his mind, and when you are praised too much, yes men appear, and when yes men appear, disaster is ensured.
The point was that this was the first time that he had massive criticism of his work, and it was relentless. Endless videos and reviews shed light on the writing problems, not to mention that the mechanics and AI were not as great as they were marketed at the time; despite the game’s success in sales, it was a bad time for Naughty Dog.
Druckmann’s games were influenced by progressivism from start to finish, and only in the sequel to his biggest work did it blow up in his face. Now it is not rare to see people thinking that Neil is a joke. Despite being the creator of a good game and the writer of the end of a beloved series, his Ideology blinded him and hindered his ability to write.
