Star Trek writer David Mack, a consultant on Star Trek: Prodigy and author of multiple Star Trek novelizations, is waving the flag of identity politics for his forthcoming Star Trek: Picard novel, Firewall. The controversial writer is already known for pushing extreme left agendas even at the expense of fans, and with his upcoming novel, it appears to be more of the same.
Star Trek has increasingly become a space hostile toward normal people, with Star Trek: Discovery pushing gay and trans agendas to the point where it interrupted the narrative flow of the show. Star Trek: Picard was also loathed by fans as they retconned Seven of Nine to be a lesbian, even though the Star Trek: Voyager ending had her getting together with Chakotay in a touching, happily ever after moment.
David Mack was a large part of the Star Trek “Lit Verse,” as it was called, which continued the 90s shows after their cancelations and kept the characters growing and progressing through a series of interconnected novels that fans loved.
However, in 2022, David Mack first began lashing out against fans over politics. He was slated to be Guest of Honor at Tennessee’s MidSouthCon, but Tennessee passed a law making it unlawful for businesses or the government to require citizens to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
He posted to Twitter at the time, saying, “He wrote on Twitter, “It is with deep regret that I must announce that I have canceled what would have been my first-ever time as an Author Guest of Honor.”
“I’ve bowed out of MidSouthCon because Tennessee state law makes proof-of-vax requirements illegal,” he also said.
Even though the COVID-19 vaccines were proven to be ineffective by 2022, David Mack chose virtue signaling at the expense of his fans in order to make his politics known, leaving the convention scrambling with weeks to go and no guest of honor.
It was even his first convention in which David Mack was invited as Guest of Honor due to his Star Trek writing.
Now, he’s making it known that if you’re not an identarian, you shouldn’t read his new book.
Posting to Facebook about Star Trek: Picard: Firewall, David Mack said, “Just to make sure there’s no misunderstanding, and no one can say I didn’t warn them, my upcoming novel STAR TREK: PICARD – FIREWALL is:
- PRO-QUEER
- PRO-TRANS
- A BIT PROFANE
- OKAY, MORE THAN A BIT
- 100% ORGANIC, ARTISNAL PROSE, NO A.I.
- Available for pre-order! (link in the comments)
Fenris Ranger Seven of Nine says, ‘Pre-Order Your Copy now!’”
Apparently divisive political marketing is the only way David Mack believes he could sell the book. It’s par for the course for how people working around the Star Trek franchise have acted over the last several years, despite the themes of original Star Trek being about working together through differences, with a rugged, pro-Christian and American message to the original series.
It’s interesting that David Mack has to mention that his Seven of Nine novel doesn’t use A.I. writing as well, implying that some other Star Trek novelizations might have been subject to such programs. One can’t help but wonder if writers like David Mack might get replaced in the future by algorithms that treat Star Trek better than making it his private political tirade blog.

Tell me Mack is a pathetic hack without saying those words.
Oh, thanks, Dave.

We’re at an amazing place in history, where “writers” protest against the government not interfering enough in people’s lives. How much you want to bet he calls Trump and DeSantis authoritarians?

Mack also dragged Farpoint Convention through the mud when their 2022 COVID protocols did not require proof of vaccination. The con’s hotel venue had other non-con customers coming in and out. There was no way Farpoint could guarantee a bubble and opted for redesigned room and line plans for social distancing, increased hygiene and handed out masks and personal bottles of sanitizer. But it wasn’t enough in his eyes and he initiate a smear campaign against the convention, joined by Keith DeCandido as well.
